A Portable Electrical Appliance is classed as any electrical equipment which by means of a 13amp connector (i.e. plug) can be connected to a common electrical supply. Individual items must be deemed to be safe at all times and tested to ensure conformity. Portable Electrical Appliance Testing is commonly known as PAT testing. Since 1st April 1990 it has been the legal responsibility of employers to ensure that not only is electrical equipment tested and inspected, but also a traceable record of testing is kept.
